Sugar Loaf race

Two minutes over the hour, but not a bad race overall. A great day out with Jamie, Mark and Tara.  Beer was good too.

Use your loaf

We went to recce the Sugar Loaf race, which is coming up soon.

It's a really good circuit of seven miles or so and I found it a longer than expected pull up to the top.  The descent is a steady gradient and with strong legs could be done with a fair amount of pace.

Brilliant to get a short and much needed burst of time out amongst the hills.   The panorama was expansive and the views up the Usk valley towards the Beacons were dramatic as the sun dropped below the clouds.

Haytor to Chudleigh

I had a window of free time so Fred dropped me off at Haytor and watched me labour up to the rocks, half set in clag.  Didn't know he was watching, glad I kept the myth alive and managed not to stop.
There were numerous school groups out with a fair contingent of reluctant folk amongst.
The run led me down the Templar Way to Bovey and then, via other footpaths, to Chudleigh.  Went wrong a couple of times - but such events always bring up new stuff so no worries.
Spring is springing - unlike my arthritic big toe which is sore.  Still, it was great to have a good sniff of wet Devon and to be out amongst the skylarks and yellow gorse.
